I created this project as if it were an in-universe "message" from a group of anti-government insurgents. In particular, the insurgents protest the upcoming Olympics as a cover-up for shady military activity.
From the point-of-view of the insurgents, only a few of the major characters would have been "known," so I created illustrations of the characters the insurgents would have had intel on.
These recurring symbols are the word "Akira" spelled in Japanese. "Akira" is actually a fairly common given name in Japan, which contrasts with its role in this story as an unspeakable force.
