While this problem is widespread across the United States, I wanted to show that it happens with more frequency in certain areas. California had the greatest density of shootings.
There are common characteristics among many shooters. I by no means wish to demonize any people with these characteristics, but it is important to help us understand the cause of the problem.
As shown here, mental illness plays a very small role in violent crime overall; therefore, it is important not to label all people with mental illnesses as violent.
